"I Am Not a Rapper" Review pt.4

HOT OFF THE PRESSES!!!! Well, it just got submitted anyway....The final installment of pre-reviews or whatever you want to call them of the "I Am Not a Rapper" mixtape. So yeah. The homie Mike B. The Cool held me down with this one and it's pretty good. Definitely should prepare yall for tonight if you weren't already. This is daily BLOG 2 out of 3....The third: MIDNIGHT.
Mike B. The Cool's "I Am Not A Rapper" Review!
First off allow me to introduce myself to those who are not familiar with who I am...I Go by the Name of "Mike B. The Cool", I represent Chicago, IL and I have had the privilege along side my partner in crime "Young Fresh" to be able to play "J. Nolan's" Music on our past internet radio show (107.3 WICB - Beonair. com) we hosted for ten months, and J. Nolan was a featured artist for about 4-5 months with the songs "Shake Me", "Saturday Night Fever", & My personal Favorite ALL TIME.."Soul brother 1'...But Enough of the small talk, lets get down to business.........."I Am Not A Rapper" : The Mixtape! It's obvious to see where J. Nolan is going with the album title in separating himself from the so-called "Rappers" in the this so called "Hip Hop Industry"..And With this effort, he surely did...He couldn't have started the mixtape off with a better song.."What You Doin' Wit Ya Life"...which the concept of the song comes from the Movie "8-Mile" where he quotes "B- Rabbit's (Eminem) mother" for all you dummies who don't know your history...and basically addresses any and everybody who has a problem with him and his music...With this mixtape he states that he used all of other people's beats, in which i only recognized 6 of them..LOL... and I'm sure the 6 I recognized are the same ones ya'll were familiar wit LOL!! and those songs are where he displays his "lyrical boasting & bragging" as i like to call it on "Save The Planet (Nas- Hero), "Bobby Bonds" (Kanye West - Barry Bonds) and also "Smarten Up" - (Lupe Fiasco - Dumb It Down) among the others....Another song that stands out on this effort is "I Hate Swag Rap"...Now I know where he's going with the title.. Swag Rap nowadays are guys like "Shawty Lo, Gucci Mane, Rocko, Plies, shall Icontinue..basically GARBAGE NIGGAS! Now as much as J. Nolan Hates the word "swagger"..he displays "swagger" very while with the flo and punchlines ", and he's basically stating that these rappers nowadays need more than just "Swagger" to make quality music..and that "...He'll never perform first @ a concert"..The last song I'm a touch base on is my personal favorite off the mixtape.."Fresh Jazz In A Booming System"...If you Listen My boi "Young Fresh & Myself "Mike B"...Get A Special shout out on this record..., thats not the only reason why this is a stand out song...it also displays J. Nolan's "SWAG" HA HA, Lyrical content, flo, and punchlines @ Its BEST...where the concept of the song is basically, "....Steppin on kicks is a SIN" LOL...and goes at everybody whos NOT FRESH!! (and also has a skit from a Classic Movie "Do The Right Thing" for the dummies.....LOLIn a nut shell, J. Nolan HAS DONE IT AGAIN... This is just another stepping stone for J. Nolan...and I have to say this is one of his best efforts...Be on Look out for more of this young brother.......Honorably Song Mentions... "Buddhist Palm", "Obsessed Fans", "Don't Act "J. Nolan Is Cool...But Mike B. Is The Coolest!! LOLI'm Gone.....http://www.myspace.com/icb_finests ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------J.Nolan is Cool

"I Am Not a Rapper" Review pt. 3

Mary Knox Reviews "I AM NOT A RAPPER"

"Being a HUGE fan of hip hop, I jumped at the chance to be one of the lucky ones to preview the newest mixtape from J. Nolan.. "I Am Not A Rapper." I was beyond pleased that this starts off with an explanation of the difference between the emcee vs. the "rapper." I think it was an excellent start to the mixtape. It definetly gives you the much needed introduction to what you are about to take in on this mixtape.J. definetly shows his skills on ALL of the tracks, but I'll just touch on the ones that struck a chord in ME. Personally I think he totally snapped on the "Hero" beat.. Track 3's "Save The Planet" which many of you have heard on the myspace page, is a definite attention getter. I went out to a hip hop outing, and heard the "Hero" song, and all that was in my head was "I save the planet, u niggaz watch.." CLASSIC. Another, is "Back On The Scene," Track 6. This is one of my favorites, hands down. This track brought a smile to my face when I heard the beat kick in, it takes you back to the days when hip hop was in its rare form. It's the shortest musical piece on the mixtape, but if you love it like I do, you'll be playing the track TWICE. Another ear catching track is "Obsessed Fan." This has a storytelling type of vibe that true heads can identify with.. has a bit of an old school feel, almost reminds me of the head nodding vibe that "Poor Georgie" had on my life from MC Lyte back in the day. It makes you really listen and think! My favorite track is "Smarten Up" .. he rides this beat like a champ.. confident sounds all around. This one will keep your head nodding.. "..i'm rappin it up like i'm wrappin it up, ya career is a gift and i'm wrappin it up.." NUFF' SAID.The last track i'll touch on is "SoUrban Style." He definetly holds his own on this jazzy track.. this just proved 2 me that he can hold down whatever you throw his way. He ripped part of the verse wit the beat playing in reverse.. I was sold!!Needless to say, my cd player will probably wear this mixtape out, but will be well worth it! Although beauty is in the ears of the beholder, I can assure you will NOT be disappointed. Make sure you download J. Nolan's mixtape "I Am Not A Rapper" THIS friday, 9/26.P.S. Peace UP, A-Town Down goes out to Lil RockRawk! lol! :)~Mary Knox~"
Thank you very much! Very similar standout tracks so far for those that have heard it, I'll have to put one of those up pretty soon. I'm super anxious to get this mixtape out!

"I Am Not a Rapper" Review pt.2

Jarrian Wilson aka JayWill reviews the mixtape for me....Check out what he had to say about it!!!

"First let me start off by saying this is long overdue. I was suppose to have this done days ago, but due to some technical difficulty I was delayed. But here it is, the review of one of the hottest mixtapes I've heard this year(and that's speaking in the terms that KidNfinite and myself haven't dropped our mixtape yet). But back to the subject at hand: J-Nolan's I'm Not A Rapper mixtape.
This is truely one of first mixtapes I can put as being one of the hottest mixtapes I've heard of someone who is not signed yet. It truely takes your mind into the life of the kid J-Nolan. He speaks on many subjects in this mixtape. Some of the songs could actually make very worthy radio cut tracks.
I'll give you a couple of the tracks that stuck out to me. Out of 19 tracks including three skits, four songs truely were those that I just had to play over and over again. My number one track is" Whatcha doin with ya life" where he depicts the struggles that he faces in the eyes of others who don't believe in his dream of being a great emcee. My second is" Bobby Bonds" where he truely showed off his metaphorical style showing that he can keep up with any artist if not exceed. My third is his freestyle "Back on the scene" where on this up beat track in one verse he spits nuclear style fire making you have to nod your head and make you think of the 90's style when it was just pure Hip Hop. And of course his critically acclaimed "Save The Planet" over the Nas "Hero" beat he talks about how he wants to save the state of Hip Hop.
This may only be a mixtape but its a worthy veiw of what we can expect for the future of Hip Hop. If you want to find J-Nolan go to www.myspace.com/jnolaniscool. Trust me when I say you will not be disappointed in what you hear.
Well I'm signing out.
This is Jarrian Wilson aka JayWill da Hitman saying look out for my boy J-Nolan. And follow the link to get to his page."
Job very well done guy! If you're reading this, please make a note of some sort that you will be able to download this mixtape FRIDAY....SEPTEMBER 26th!!! For FREE of course. Real hip-hop music is coming back man....And I'm not the one telling you anymore. I can't wait to hear more opinions!!!
